Does it concern anyone that the NBA has a low global profile?

The NBA had quite a good global profile many years ago, but has gone backwards whilst football has grown in leaps and bounds. The most recognised athlete in the world was Michael Jordan and now it's David Beckham or Ronaldihno.

Most NBA players could walk down the street outside of America and nobody would know who they are.

With the growth of basketball overseas and the stars coming from all around the globe, American players don't have as much appeal as they used to. It's understandable, why would a German go nuts over an American when they got a great talent and MVP in Dirk? Then with the decline in ppl happy with the US, what do you expect? Times have changed......that's all.

If football is king, and it always was, then how are times changing?

I actually live in Germany now for 12 years, and basketball has grown leaps and bounds since I've been here. Of course Dirk Nowitzki had a lot to do with it though. Report It

I disagree Kobe, Shaq, Lebron, Yao, and others are way more recognized globally than ronaldinho Report It

Indy - Basketball maybe on the rise in Germany, but who is better known, Michael Ballack or Dirk Nowitzki? Bundersliga or NBA? I think you know the answer there.

Willy - Not even close. Ronaldihno, Ronaldo, Cannavarro, Henry, Beckham are far bigger global names than any NBA player Report It

You really don't believe that do you? The NBA's global popularity can be validated by the fact that so many European and International players have been added to the league in the last decade. I doubt if the "football" you are referring to is soccer, that it has grown, if anything the Europeans are realizing why soccer has peaked out in the US. Because clearly, basketball, and american football, are much more entertaining to watch.
The NBA still has a good global profile. Granted Soccer is #1 outside of the US and the NFL has gained popularity with exhibition games outside US Boarders. If you look at the draft the past few years there have been more international players involved as first round picks and are among the stars of the NBA.
is this a joke? also, David Beckham and Ronaldihno play soccer, but there will be an football game in London this year
stay off the crack
No. I haven't cared about basketball since it turned in to a gangsta rap video with a ball.
Really, do you know how many chinese people watch basketball now. You are dumb.

.
You have to be kidding right? There are more foreign players in the NBA now than there has ever been.
You could also reverse it: a huuuuuuuge football (as in soccer) player could be walking around your town and no one would know who he is. Soccer is like, THE sport in many countries around the world...except the US. So yeah, it works both ways. Kobe Bryant could be walking around Paris and no one would even blink. He'd just be another arrogant American to them.
Basketball is THE #1 American sports export in the world. More people watch basketball in China, for instance than in the United States by a ridiculous margin, AND they reaally follow the games and know the players.

You are correct that Americans do not care about the NBA the way they used to. The better question for you to ask is why?
